There may be times when you feel tired, lazy, and unable to concentrate all throughout the day. Because of this, you are most likely unable to perform all the tasks set for the day, while your performance is also compromised. Sluggishness may be due to oversleeping (or lack thereof), lack of exercise, and unhealthy diet.
According to a study conducted by the University of Toronto Health Services, sluggishness is the effect of not having the adequate amount and necessary vitamins and minerals needed to fuel your brain. Surprisingly, this is due to eating too many pizzas, donuts, French fries, and other unhealthy foods instead of taking in the needed proteins, fruits, and vegetables.
In order to fight off sluggishness, eat a healthy mix of foods that keep your body and mind alert like fish, fruits, vegetables, and lots of grains like bread, pasta, cereal, rice, and barley.
To improve your concentration and memory and to help keep your mind alert, include fish in your diet. Fish are rich sources of protein and omega-3 fatty acids which enhance the communication among brain cells.
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables with high vitamin C content such as kiwi, broccoli, guava, and other citrus fruits. Vitamin C helps fight fatigue caused by stress and anxiety. Also, ensure adequate intake of potassium because it regulates the nervous system which boosts brain power. Rich sources of potassium include seeds, nuts, beans, and bananas. And don’t forget to include apples, potatoes, and other chromium-rich fruits and vegetables on your daily menu because chromium helps maintain steady blood sugar levels that help the body produce energy.
Grains could also fight off sluggishness because it is high in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are a source of energy for the body and brain.
So, to keep you going through the day with both body and mental energy, eat a healthy and well-balanced diet.
